Curriculum for Excellence represents a massive overhaul of education in Scotland’s schools aiming to provide ‘a coherent, more flexible and enriched curriculum from 3 to 18’ by enabling ‘each child or young person to be a successful learner, a confident individual, a responsible citizen and an effective contributor’.

Religious and Moral Education and Religious Observance have a key role to play in helping children achieve these four capacities – empowering them to explore the meaning, value and purpose of life both for themselves as individuals and with reference to others.

This one-day national conference will bring together a variety of stakeholders involved in the delivery of Religious and Moral Education and Religious Observance to discuss the future of faith in schools and, through examples of good practice, explore how teachers, pupils, parents and carers can get the balance right.

Featured speakers include:

Councillor Ewan Aitken, City of Edinburgh Council and Church and Society Council, Church of Scotland

Ken Cunningham CBE, General Secretary, School Leaders’ Scotland

Scott Duncan, Development Officer for RME, Learning and Teaching Scotland

Councillor Peter MacKenzie, Convener, Committee for Education, East Lothian Council
